An iPhone on iOS 26. Counting, scoring, the pace chart, the notes and the Progress tab work on any of them. The coach note uses Apple Intelligence, which needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later with Apple Intelligence switched on in Settings. Without it Ummo still counts, scores and charts every session; only the coach note is missing.
Tap Talk and start speaking. Or, on the Practice tab, tap Answer this on a prompt (there are 36, across interview, pitch, toast, explain, story and small talk), or pick a short passage to read aloud. While you talk, the timer and three meters run: fillers, pace in words a minute, and pauses. Fillers are marked in the transcript as they happen. Tap Stop and the report opens with your score out of 100, the three numbers, a pace-by-minute chart, plain-English notes on the numbers and, with Apple Intelligence, a coach note. A session stops on its own after ten minutes.
Both prompts appear the first time you start a session. Nothing else is asked for. There is no account and no network access.
Settings, Ummo, and turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition. If you declined the first time, the recorder shows a button that takes you straight there.
Ummo can only count what Apple's recogniser hears. Speak at a normal volume with the phone within arm's reach, and a quiet room helps. An uh often arrives as ah; Ummo counts them as the same filler. Very quick or very quiet fillers are sometimes dropped by the recogniser itself, which is why the score leans on the trend across sessions rather than any single one.
Check Settings, Apple Intelligence and Siri, and make sure Apple Intelligence is on. If you have just switched it on, the model may still be downloading; Ummo checks again on its own, and the report has a Try again button. On an iPhone without Apple Intelligence the coach note is not available, and everything else still works.
Settings has three bands: Presentation (110 to 150 words a minute), Conversation (130 to 170, the default) and Brisk (150 to 190). Pace outside your band costs points in the score, so pick the one that matches what you are rehearsing.
Words such as like, basically, actually and you know are counted separately from fillers and appear on the Progress tab. Edit the list in Settings to add your own or remove ones that are simply part of how you talk.
Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap the plus in the corner, search Ummo, and add it. Tapping it starts a session. It works on the Lock Screen and in Control Centre too, and you can map the Action Button to it.
Yes. A Live Activity shows the timer, filler count, pace and a Stop button on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Tap Stop there to end the session and open the report.
There are none. Ummo never stores audio. It keeps the transcript and the numbers, on your iPhone, and nothing else.
Settings, Delete everything, removes every session and resets your settings. Deleting the app does the same. Since Ummo never uploads anything, there is nothing anywhere else to delete.
